Fishing With John...

This was one of those Netflix picks I took a chance on. It was listed under documentaries, but I'm not convinced it was one. It was weird. This guy, John Lurie, who according to IMDb is an actor and musician, takes various people out fishing. His guests include Jim Jarmusch, Tom Waits, Willem Dafoe, Matt Dillon, and Dennis Hopper. I am not into fishing and this is certainly not your typical fishing show. What I liked about it was that there was virtually no talk about show business or these guests' careers. It's just the two of them hanging out, fishing. Some might find it slow and pointless, but I found it subtle and odd. Some of the scenery is spectacular as well. More HERE. You can also watch some of it on YouTube.

I have to tell my boyfriend about this - he'll probably love it.

That actually sounds fascinating. Thanks for the recommendation.

My son is bugging me to do a cable-access talk show that would be along those lines. I think he got the idea from Wayne's World.

John Lurie is weird. Ever see Down By Law? Weird.

AHA!! You have one of my favorite features. Fishing with John was one of the first Netflix rentals we got years ago.

Did you have a favorite guest? I liked watching the progression of the show from relatively straightforward (shark fishing with Jim Jarmusch) to totally absurd (giant squids with Dennis Hopper)

Bubs- I noticed it getting progressively weirder. I like things like this where you aren't sure what to think of it, unlike most theings these days that are spoon-fed. I still have the theme song stuck in my head - "Fishing...With John".
