Smut Peddlers Invade Northern Michigan...

On my drive to work, there is one of those buildings that is constantly changing uses. It's been a mattress store, a window store, an office, a plumbing supply store, and more. Just the other day a sign went up saying that it was now an adult bookstore, the first one I've seen north of Traverse City (about 1.5 hours south of me). The picture above is not it, just a sample for people who have never seen one.

I'm looking forward to future drives to and from work. Now, when I see people coming and going, I can give them a friendly toot on the horn and watch them cower in shame. It could be good for a few laughs. Of course, this is only on the days when I don't need to stock up on stuff myself.

A few years ago, an adult video (or late night video, as they euphemistically call themselves) store opened in my parents' town. Everyone was all up in arms about how it wasn't in keeping with the values of the community. Right. It's stayed in business longer than anything else that's ever been in that spot, so at least a handful of those Pottery Barn people must like porn.

I think it's a NIMBY thing, even if you like porn, you probably don't want the porn store on your block.

And why do we need porn stores now, isn't that what the internet is for?

Megan: Yeah, just think how much better Pottery Barn sales would be if they offered porn.
Lulu: I don't understand it myself. I've often wondered what percentage of all internet content is dedicated to porn.

I thought 99% of the Internet was porn-related.

Do you know the Warren Zevon album Traverse City?

People need hard-copy (heh heh) porn because not everyone can masturbate with their non-mouse hand.

I thought smut was invented in Northern Michigan?

Beth: I don't know the album, but I'll check it out.
Vikki: Luckily I'm semi-ambidextrous.
Kristi: It wouldn't surprise me. We need stuff to keep us going through these long winters.

I thought smut was invented in Wisconsin, along with fireworks, cheese and brats. At least that's what it looks like when you cross over the border from Illinois.
