It is a very long ass flight but totally worth every minute. If you don't love Maui there is something seriously wrong with you. Have a great time - I could totally waste your time telling you a long list of great things to do - but will limit myself to only one - go to the top of the volcano to see the sunrise - you'll have to get up at the crack of your ass to get there in time but if you do only one thing besides lounge on the beach - do that.
I've been to Hawaii three times in the last five years, and each time someone else took care of the flights and accomodation. And last summer (when I got married in Maui), we went first class!
...but I leave for Maui the day after Christmas
