I Miss France...

A lot of people rag on France. A lot of the people who do, I find, have never been there. For some reason today, I'm missing it. I lived in Versailles my junior year of college and had access to Paris, one of the great cities of the world. Here's a few of the things I miss:

Popping into a boulangerie on the way to school for some pain au chocolat.

The Paris Metro, even with the French urine stank. Now that I've ridden the New York subway, I think I can say that the Metro smells worse.

Having lunch in the gardens at Versailles.

Watching that crazy dude perform in front of the Pompidou Center.

Getting fucked up and hanging out at the Parc De La Villette.

Nutella Crepes for dessert.
I found that it was a nice way to bookend the day with chocolate in the morning and at night. Sure, Nutella isn't exactly chocolate, but it's close enough.

I've never been to France, ergo I don't like it.

Have you forgotten that the French didn't support W in his time of need, Chris?

That's why they have American Fries at Robert's Restaurant in Boyne City...

Nutella is food of the Gods. and crepes are easy to make; you could have them at home.

mmm, french food...I'll see your pain au chocolat and raise you a pain aux amandes. And then I'll have a warm fresh baguette smeared with camembert, please. I also loved the chocolate Yop! - did you ever try that?

Dick- Yeah, I know. It's a crude pic.

Frank- They would hate you in France with all your freedom-loving.

Lulu- Good point.

Clare- I might have. I was on a chocolate mousse kick for a time, too. You know the guy at the Pompidou I'm talking about, right?

What? That pain au chocolate looks like excrement?!? No it doenst!! Just 'cuz it's BROWN don't mean it's made outta' POOP, Dick!!

I'm fascinated that ANYONE is still selling freedom fries, freedom-cut beans, freedom nails, freedom poodles or freedom ticklers. The fact that YOU know this, frank, demonstrates your unbound love of this fine country of ours!!

I'm with you. I miss seeing all the working people buying baguettes on the way home from work, the snooty Parisians that act like they can't understand your French, spending hours and hours in the Louvre, and oh, how I miss the food. Steak tartare, steak au poivre, le coc au vin,... I gotta stop, I'm getting hungry.

Do they cut their herb with tobacco, like the Italians?

When I hear "Crazy dude at Pompidou" I think of that shirtless guy with the potbelly who did that big act with fireating and everything. He always drew a crowd. But the memory could be getting blended with the memories of every other freaky European street performer I've seen.
