Another Example Of Failed Marketing...

You know, I've never had Toffifay candy. I always see it sitting there at the supermarket check-out and I wonder who ever buys it. I assume it's been languishing on the shelf since the 1970s. My reluctance to try it may be due to the fact that I'm still a little put off by the commercials they used to run when I was younger. The gist was that Toffifay was an adult candy that was "too good for kids." As a kid, whenever I saw it I'd think, "Fine. Fuck you and your snooty-ass candy. I'll get a Whatchamacallit instead." I can only imagine the billions in revenue they lost as a result of this ill-conceived ad campaign.

let's see... sell to a kid with 2 bucks lost in three pairs of jeans or go for adults with credit cards and doh and a huge sweet tooth, especially when high or drunk? You did say the 70s - that was a very good decade for the munchies.

Yeah - too good for kids. I won't buy it because they used to say it was too good for blacks. That was back in the 50's. Stupid, racist candy.

I have never heard of this racist candy, so good for me!

Meh, I had one once. You're not missing anything. It was too good for Iowans too.

the name "Toffifay"
is reason enough
for me to hate it

An advert made by clever dentists perhaps?

It looks like it would stick to your teeth and possibly require an emergency dentist visit.

I didn't think they even still made this candy- I thought it was phased out in the 80's along with disco and cocaine.

People often underplay the angry kids with money demo.

The name in a product is very important...
..and Toffifay sounds like was chosen from the obnoxious 5 years old daughter of the sweet producer, who let her go away with whatever she wanted...

Whatchamacallits are way better anyway.

Mnmom -- Iowans are too good for Toffifay.

What kind of moron would choose to market candy NOT at KIDS?! Kids drive the candy industry, I'm pretty certain. Duh. I've never had Toffifay either.

I'm ashamed to admit I ate these as a kid, but I don't think I ever saw the ads.
