Get Low And Go...

For the very first time, I have joined a ski racing league. Last night was my first race. I have never skied competitively before, so I was a little nervous about wiping out and embarrassing myself in front of my new team. Luckily, I kept it together and made it down without looking like too much of an ass. This week's race was just to set my handicap. The way it works, you're really racing against yourself rather than another person. I'm awarded more points the better I do against my previous time.

It was fun. The people on my team, most of whom I didn't know, seem nice and don't take it too seriously. It's more of a beer league than anything else. It was a beautiful night, not too cold, and some fluffy new snow.

My top priority is to avoid a situation like this:

Good luck! I loved racing when I worked at Winter park resort in Colorado, and also saw some major crashes like that.

Exactly how big are these hills in Michigan?

ne'er COULD get the hang of skiing, even on lil' bunny hills. Ne'er got o'er that feeling of feet-disasociated-from-the-rest-of-the-universe feeling...

I used to love skiing. Did you go on those overnight trips with the park district?

I would have liked it better if your youtube clip had been that skiing scene from Better Off Dead, especially if you'd included that paperboy on his bike demanding his two dollars. Oh well. . .

I have only been skiing 3 times. the first time was awful, but by then of the 2nd time I did ok. The 3rd was good. That was like 7 years ago, though!
Good luck in your competitions!
