I Need A Good De-icing...

I figured most of you are worried sick that I've gone so long without a post. The last few days have been a toxic cocktail of airplane travel, crappy weather, and a major deadline for work. I have a shit-ton of stuff to catch up on on the Google Reader. It pains me to know all the hilarity I've been missing out on.

Something that I was curious about was whether they intentionally route the most slovenly, most wretched air travelers through Chicago/O'Hare or is it like that everywhere? I sat facing the base of an escalator for a few hours and it was like a parade of sadness. I know airports can bring out the worst in people, but Christ Almighty! I'm sure I'll have more to say later. I know there's nothing quite as fascinating as a good airport anecdote!

I hear that Vodka goes good with de-icing fluid!

I love people watching at airports, always happy, happy people coming home to loved ones mixed with sad people going the other way.

I was out at DFW several months ago early, waiting at my gate working on my laptop. A 777 came in full of troops from Iraq, and all of the people waiting to see them were all around my gate. I just sat there with tears streaming down my face as each of them was greeted by spouses, kids, and everyone was clapping for them. It was a special moment.

Nothing quite as hellish as an airport.

I've seen a similar "parade of sadness" at the Mall of America.

Oh, airports! >.< I hate traveling, and I refuse to travel by myself again. I had to fly out of Atlanta once this summer, to go to Boston, got rerouted to Baltimore in a stupid incident, and sat in Baltimore's airport for 11 hours. No lie.

The worst airport experience I ever had was in Hawaii. Two flights before our flight were cancelled, so the terminal was FULL of pissed off people who had been waiting about 10 hours they said. We couldn't get up to the gate to check in for our flight because the mob started rioting, refusing to let people onto our plane because they thought it wasn't fair that we should get to take off when they couldn't. It was like kindergarteners fighting over chairs! I think they even jinxed our plane in all their rage, because once we were finally let on, something went wrong on the runway and we had to sit there in the hot, oxygen-deprived plane for about 3 hours waiting for them to fix whatever had happened (something about the cargo door, that's all I know). Ugh. Not a good day in Oahu, that's for sure.

Welcome home! :-)

I once sat in O'Hare across from a LDS couple from Utah. I had to hold my mouth shut with my hands to keep from yelling obscenities to entertain myself.

The sight of an airplane leaving the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport still thrills me. I think "wonder where they are going?" But plane travel isn't the glamour trip it was when I was a kid. They used to WAIT ON YOU and give you drinks and snacks!! And there were always empty seats here and there to stretch out on.

What's worse than the Chicago O'Hare airport during the holidays?

The JFK airport in New York.
