Documentary Film Of The Day: Joan Rivers: A Piece Of Work...

I'll be honest.  I've never been a Joan Rivers fan.  I can remember avoiding The Tonight Show as a kid whenever she'd fill in while Johnny was on vacation.  This documentary went a long way in changing my perception of her.  For one thing, I had never seen her doing her stand-up in small clubs.  She's shockingly dirty!  While the film does address some of the things Joan is well known for like the plastic surgery and her roller-coaster career, it digs deeper to reveal an extremely hard-working, vulnerable person.  I thought it was excellent.

Netflix it or watch it instantly HERE.

I've gotta put this in my queue. Joan really gets a lot of shit for the state of her face these days, but she's one funny broad - always has been. And, yes, she got famous by working hard...something these reality TV twits know nothing about.

I'm a bit older, and can remember he stand up stuff in the 60's. My parents loved her, and so do I. I particularly remember a joke about her nemesis Heidi Abramowitz having landing lights installed on her legs.

Truthfully, I'm not a fan of stand-up comics, including Rivers, Rickles or all the forgotten people on Leno ... tho Jonathan Winters was crazy good in his early days and Steve Martin was funny when he wore bunny ears and played the banjo.

It's in my queue. I'm glad to hear that you recommend it. I'll probably watch it now instead of letting it sit.

My opinion of her changed a bit after I saw her on Celebrity apprentice - she seems like a very hard worker and still has a lot of spunk for a woman her age. I didn't like the drama they tried to create with her and Melissa tho'. That part was stupid.
